Blogging Decreases Social Space and Increases Knowledge Shared

At a recent conference at Berkeley's Haas Business School, ""It's[blogging] about decreasing social space between employees, and increasing the amount of knowledge shared between people," said James Spohrer, director of IBM's Almaden Research Center. True, true, true James. It is important to decrease social space between employees who are not sitting next to each other. And even if they are sitting next to you or down the hall, blogs can create some convo at the water cooler and generate some good ol' fashion word-of-mouth and peer recognition. All these actions help to further disseminate information throughout the company...making the large company act like a nimble, itty-bitty one.

However, while we want to increase the amount of knowledge shared we also would rather read concise, high quality information, be equally informed and in the end save us time. Snippets of easily consumed knowledge that can be utilized. For those of you who read my previous post "Internal Knowledge Markets not Knowledge Management" you know I described a vivid "information overload." I think that most CEOs want their employees to increase knowledge and ideas shared, but keep your eyes on the prize buddy I am running a business here not a social club.
